A man has been arrested after a UKIP supporter claimed he was attacked on an Accrington street.

Bobby Anwar, 33, who is UKIP campaigner, posted a picture of himself on a social media site with blood pouring from his face.

Police said they are investigating the alleged attack and say they are looking into whether a knuckle duster or 'some kind of weapon' could have been used.

Mr Anwar is believed to have suffered a fractured eye socket in the attack which happened on Hope Street between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday, May 17.

DS Adrian McHugh, of Accrington CID, said police were investigating what is understood to be a 'neighbour dispute'.

He said: "There seems to have been a confrontation. Someone punched the aggrieved with a kind of knuckleduster or weapon."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.

A 38-year-old man from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent and bailed pending further enquiries.
