Street violence has left neighbours living in fear after a teenage boy was stabbed in broad daylight.

Up to 10 teenage yobs – some as young as 15 – are believed to have fought in the road on Saturday.

Police said a 15-year-old suffered back injuries believed to have been caused by a small knife.

He was not seriously injured.

People living on Blackburn Road said the violence was becoming a ‘regular occurrence’.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It happens every Friday and Saturday now and there’s a lot of youth problems around here. It’s really worrying living close to it when this happens.”

“We were told somebody was stabbed and it’s something I am obviously worried and concerned about.

“You see people rolling up in their cars waiting for something or someone. The first I knew about this one was when I saw the ambulance pull up.”

Great Harwood councillor Noordad Aziz has called for a greater police presence in the town on weekends.

He said: “We have got an anti-social behaviour problem and it will need addressing and calming down. We need to see what we can do to alleviate any issues and it needs to be nipped in the bud.

“We need more of a police presence on the weekend in Great Harwood.

Det Insp Nikki Bithell, of Lancashire Police’s eastern division CID, is appealing for anyone who witnessed the fight to get in contact.  The incident happened at around 1.45pm on Saturday, September 28.

She said: “There was a disturbance involving a large group of men.

“It culminated in one male having a stab wound to his back and receiving minor injuries. It was a melee which spilled out into the road and stopped all the traffic.

“We don’t have many details and are struggling for independent witnesses.

“If anybody did come across the fight then we would be keen to speak to them.”

One man was arrested and questioned and has been released on police bail. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
