A wine bar in Great Harwood is set to open later into the night after approval was given to change its licence.

Bosses at the Mint Tree, on Glebe Street, applied for permission to extend the time it can serve alcohol from 3am to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights, and to stay open to the public until 4.30am every day.

They also wanted to open from 10am instead of 5pm on Wednesday to Sunday to allow them to run a coffee bar serving food during the day.

Concerns were received from some residents over noise problems and local businesses over crime and disorder.

Councillors approved the licensing changes at a recent committee meeting, however ruled that a minimum of two doormen were needed after 10pm on Friday and Saturday night.

David Sinclair, co-owner and manager of the Mint Tree, said: “I’m very pleased with the hours change as we will now be able to open during the day.

“Before, we couldn’t serve alcohol until 6pm, which meant we couldn’t really open until then.”

David said they will be looking to take on more staff and hope to operate on the new opening hours by Christmas.
