This winter is set to be the warmest on record in Hyndburn according to a local weather expert.

Roy Chetham, from Huncoat, said the borough has enjoyed the warmest, driest and sunniest November in recent years and December is set to break records again.

He said: “Unless there is a cold snap, December is going to be the warmest year on record.

“But these higher temperatures are not due to warmer days, just the strange and total lack of cold nights and frosty mornings.

“So far this year, for the first time on record there have been no air frosts at Huncoat.”

Last month temperatures were two degrees above the long-term average and are set to be 'near or just above' the average this month.
