A woman was hit during an attempted robbery in Accrington on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old was locking up an address on Church Hall in Church when was approached by a man in the garden of the property and threatened.

The man demanded her phone and when the woman refused he hit her.

She was able to defend herself and the man ran from the scene in an unknown direction.

Detetcive Sergeant Julie Cross said the incident happened at around 9pm on Wednesday, November 28.

She said: “Fortunately, the woman was only left with minor injuries but this was an extremely distressing experience for her and has left her understandably shaken.

“The address she was leaving is not her home address – she was visiting someone. I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area around the time to come forward and contact us if they witnessed anything. I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area either prior to or following the incident.”

The offender has been described as Asian, around five feet eleven inches tall, of muscular build and was wearing a tracksuit top and bottoms and had a dark scarf covering his face.
