A woman had to be freed from a car by firefighters when the vehicle turned onto its roof after coming off the motorway.

The woman, who was in her forties, was rescued from the overturned vehicle by firefighters this afternoon.

The car came off the M65 eastbound between junction 7 at Accrington and 8 at Shuttleworth just after 3.15pm.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said the woman did not suffer serious injuries in the incident.

She said: “We were called at 3.15pm to a report that a car had come off the motorway and landed on its roof.

“The driver was a woman in her forties. The fire service attended and got her out.”
