Laptop users are being warned about the dangers of their computers overheating after a woman burned her leg when her computer caught on fire.

Firefighters from Hyndburn Fire Station were called to a house on Bluebell Way, Huncoat at 11am on Wednesday after her laptop battery caught fire, destroying the computer.

Hyndburn watch manager Liam Barker said: "It was one of those out of the blue incidents. The young lady had the laptop on her legs when she heard a bang and it had scolded her legs.

"She threw the laptop to the floor and it burned a hole in the carpet and cause some small damage to the lounge.

"The woman suffered superficial burns and we treated her at the scene with a special burns gel.

"I have never know where a laptop has set on fire being on a persons leg, normally it's when they are put on beds or duvets.

"People need to know the dangers of having computers as they need to cool underneath. They have a fan and it's important to keep them on a solid surface to keep it well-ventilated."
