A mill that has been targeted by thieves and vandals is being demolished.

York Mill in Rishton is being flattened by owners EW Cartons. The York Street site was previously a packing business but was targeted by vandals and metal thieves while it stood empty.

The building, constructed in the 90s, has been stripped of metal since it closed and has been a magnet for anti-social behaviour in the area.

Under the plans the four outer walls will be retained but the building itself will be flattened.

Demolition at the site has now begun and ward councillor Ken Moss said residents were in favour of getting rid of the eyesore site.

He said: "The only main concern people seem to have is if there was a housing development there what the effect on the local infrastructure would be in terms of schools and traffic."

Alison Whalley, of EW Cartons, said the work was due to be completed over the next three to four weeks.
