A group of hardworking youngsters from across Hyndburn have raised almost £500 for the Child Brain Injury Trust.

The 16 to 17-year-olds have undertaken the National Citizen Service scheme with Accrington Stanley Community Trust, during which they had to undertake a social action project.

They chose to raise awareness and money for the Child Brain Injury Trust and earned a total of £491 from bag packing, selling cakes and shaking buckets at Stanley home games.

At half-time in the Reds’ recent win over Cambridge, the young volunteers received their NCS certificates and were joined by the Mayor of Hyndburn, Munsif Dad, to present a cheque to local youngster Nathaniel Taylor and his mum Laura.

Nathaniel lives in Clitheroe and underwent a second operation in May for an acquired brain injury.

Nat has been supported by the Child Brain Injury Trust throughout his treatment and, along with his mum Laura, he is now an ambassador for the charity.

Laura said: “As a mum to a child with an acquired brain injury, I know how hard it can be. Without the support of this amazing charity we would be lost.”

The money raised will go towards helping other families affected by brain injuries.
