A lovestruck man was caught by police ‘making tea’ at a woman’s house he was banned from.

Simon Raith, 26, was given a restraining order against the victim in March 2013 and ordered not to go within 1km of where she was living or have any contact with her.

However Burnley Crown Court heard how Raith was arrested after police attended her house on Haydock Square in Great Harwood on December 20 last year and found him ‘making tea’. He told police that they were ‘in love’ and ‘wanted to be a couple’ but couldn’t afford the legal fees to remove the restraining order.

Raith, of Wilfred Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order while subject to a suspended prison sentence order. The order was given last February after Raith pleaded guilty to three further counts of breaching the restraining order.

Judge Ian Leeming QC ordered the restraining order be removed and Raith was given a 12-month conditional discharge and fined £75.
