A man was involved in a four-hour rooftop stand-off with police following a car chase.

The 25-year-old from Clayton-le-Moors climbed on top of a row of terraced houses on Brisbane Street at around 2.30pm yesterday and eventually came down at 6.30pm.

Inspector Andy Carter said the man, who was known to police, was pursued from Burnley to Clayton-le-Moors before climbing onto the rooftop.

He said: “He failed to stop after being spotted by our officers.

“He was pursued from Burnley to Clayton-le-Moors and when he abandoned the car he went onto a rooftop.

“We are going to interview him this morning about everything. He is coming in of his own accord.”

Inspector Carter said the man abandoned the car after being ‘nudged’ by police.

He said: “We gave his car a slight nudge going round a corner which is called ‘Tactical Contact’.

“We nudge the back of his car to put it off its line.”

Police said no injuries were reported during the incident.
