A man was threatened at knifepoint in an attempted robbery.

The incident happened at Gatty Park in Accrington on Saturday, August 22 at around 11.15am.

The 51-year-old man was walking alone when he was approached by two teenage boys.

It is believed one of the boys had a large kitchen knife and threatened the man, asking him to hand over money.

The victim told the pair he had no cash on him, at which point they appeared to panic and ran away.

Police have appealed for information.

DS Ben Hodgkinson, from Blackburn CID, said: “This was a frightening incident for the victim and it is fortunate that nobody was injured. We believe a large kitchen knife was used in the incident, which we all know, if used as a weapon, could have had devastating effect.

“The two offenders were clearly unsure what to do as they seemed to panic and run away. I would appeal to the public, especially around the Gatty Park area of Accrington, to contact us with any information they may have to assist in identifying the two teenagers involved, before their behaviour escalates any further.”

The youngster who was carrying the knife is described as white, thought to be around 16 years old, of a slim build, with blond hair shaved at the sides and short on top wearing a light blue top.

The other was described as white, thought to be around 16 years old, of a slim build, with short brown hair, glasses and was wearing a dark coloured top.
