Oswaldtwistle Library celebrated its 100th anniversary - with dignitaries being placed in punishment stocks!
Hyndburn Mayor Marlene Haworth and Mayoress Dorothy Berry were the first people locked in to the stocks, which have been refurbished by the Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club.
Dozens of people attended the birthday celebrations which were opened by County Councillor Marcus Johnstone and included performances from the Concord Singers and displays of old pictures of the library and the surrounding area.
Coun Haworth said: “It was a lovely day. Of course it was the library’s 100th birthday which is brilliant and the Concord Singers did a great concert with a lot of songs from the shows.
"There were loads of people there and it was a great afternoon.
“The stocks were in a bit of state but the Rotary have done amazing work.
"The Mayoress and myself were talked into being the first people to sit in them.
“Thankfully there was no rotten tomatoes thrown at us.”
The team behind the rebuilding of the stocks included Rotarians Aslam Mohammed, Ian McTurk, Ron Pickup and John Ramsden.
