Ford has launched an online configurator dedicated to the new GT.

This allows clients to spec their ideal example of the car by personalising its appearance inside and out. But it also requires them to explain why they’re worthy of being allowed to buy such a vehicle in the first place.

You’d think that having £400,000 to spend would be enough. But no. You have to explain what Ford means to you – and, indeed, what you might mean to it.

Maybe you already own a GT. Maybe you’re a Ford supplier, a noted collector or someone in the world of motorsport.

Maybe your business runs a fleet of Transits. Maybe you and Ford both support the same charities.

Or maybe (try not to throw up here) you’re a blogger or other ‘influencer’.

All this is necessary because demand is going to far outstrip supply – which at present is limited to 500 cars.

These will include two special editions, likely to include a high-spec launch model and a more hardcore machine drawing on the version of the GT which will compete in this year’s World Endurance Championship.

Either way, they mean business. If you want to be considered for the first release of the new GT, your application needs to be received by 12 May.
