Hyndburn’s MP has hit out at ‘childish and divisive behaviour’ after he was named as being on a list of MPs ‘hostile’ to his own party leadership.
The leaked list ranking Labour MPs according to their ‘loyalty’ to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been published.
It consists of four groups; core group, core group plus, neutral but not hostile, core group negative and hostile.
Mr Corbyn’s office has denied all knowledge of the list, which was published in The Times newspaper, and which included Graham Jones.
Former shadow party whip Mr Jones resigned from the Labour front benches last September after Mr Corbyn was named party leader.
Speaking about the list, he said: “I just think it’s very divisive and it shows the way the leadership are thinking.
“They don’t want to work with people, they want to work against them. It’s sad for the Labour Party.”
Mr Jones is one of 36 MPs on the list, which includes former deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman and former Shadow Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
He added that the leader had written to all MPs about the list.
He said: “Jeremy Corbyn sent an email in regards to the list and he said he knew nothing about it, but there’s been too many incidents.
“I think it’s divisive and childish.”
Mr Jones said there will always be differences within the party.
He added: “The reality is we will agree on some things, there will be differences of opinion.
“To start name calling other colleagues you are supposed to be working with is not helpful.
“Some people are attracted to the extreme hard left and they have never contributed anything to British politics other than trouble and they are trying to infiltrate the Labour Party - and that’s troubling.”
