Members of a Neighbourhood Watch group have raised concerns about thefts in Oswaldtwistle.

Rhyddings Park Neighbourhood Watch raised the issue at the latest meeting of the town’s Area Forum.

In a statement to the forum, the group said they were concerned about the level of criminal activity including break-ins to sheds and garages in the area.

The group said there had been at least four stone thefts in the last month, and at least seven in the last few weeks.

The group said: “There are ten neighbours in our area who have been affected.

“Some of these are repeat offences and involve the stealing of equipment worth in excess of £10,000.”

PC Laura Rigby, who attended the meeting, said there had been a slight increase in crime, comparing to figures for the area from last year.

She said: “It’s better that we know. It’s difficult sometimes – we’re on until 2am and the PCSOs work until 10pm.

“This is something we can address, it’s a massive problem at the moment.”

County councillor Munsif Dad said that Hyndburn council had a mobile CCTV unit and he would make enquiries about availability.
