Outgoing Hyndburn Mayor Munsif Dad has raised more than £11,000 during his year in office.

The Spring Hill ward councillor was presented with three final cheques for his Mayoral charities.

Cheques were presented for £50 from Richmond MOT centre, £325 from the BME Forum and £540 from Raees Hussain and Zahid Iqbal.

A £10,000 donation will be split between East Lancashire Hospice, Accrington and District Blind Society, East Lancashire Air Ambulance and Macmillan cancer charities.

The remainder will be shared among a number of smaller local charities and will be decided by the Mayoral Charity Committee. It comes after numerous fundraising events throughout the last 12 months.

Coun Dad said: “It’s been a fantastic year and I’ve met so many wonderful people.

“It’s been a privilege and honour to serve as Mayor and I’m delighted the Mayoral Charity has been boosted by over £11,000 during my Mayoral year, thanks to the kindness and generosity of Hyndburn people.”

Coun Marlene Haworth has been elected as the new Mayor with a ceremony due to take place on Saturday, May 30.
