A COMMUNITY have been left ‘outraged’ after a children’s playground was vandalised.

Police are investigating after fencing at a £55,000 play park in the Coppice, Accrington was ripped out of the ground.

The play area was opened in June following an upgrade by the Friends of Arden Hall who installed a cableway, basket swing, modern climbing frame and large rotator.

Ward councillor Eamonn Higgins reported the vandalism to the police after coming across it while walking his dog.

He said: “I was dismayed to see what had happened, it is an absolute outrage.

“It shows a complete lack of respect, that area was designed for older children to use to provide them with something to do.”

Former councillor Dave Parkins, who helped to secure funding for the play area, said: “Things like this do unfortunately happen from time to time, but it is such a shame because we did well to secure that funding in the first place.”

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We will be investigating the incident and will be stepping up patrols in the area.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101.
