A distraught owner has appealed for help after her pet owl went missing following a reported break-in at an aviary.

Amy Westell, who lives in Barnfield, Accrington said the barn owl named Tilly has been missing since Thursday, September 3 and has asked for the public’s help in getting her returned.

She believes the owl was stolen from their allotment aviary, following two alleged attempted break-ins over successive nights.

Another owl, a great grey called Freddy, went missing the following night although he has now been safely returned after being found on Friday night.

Amy, 28, to whose mum the owls belong, said she is “very stressed and upset” and has offered a £100 reward for anyone who can bring Tilly home.

She said: “There have been sightings of Tilly in the Coppice area so she is out there. If anyone can bring her back to us it would be a huge relief to my mum.

“Barn owls can’t be exposed to much rainwater and with the chances of rain high in the coming days it’s unlikely that she will survive unless she is brought home soon.”

If anyone has any information that could be of use to Amy and her family in relation to Tilly call Amy on 07934 904341 or email Awestell@yahoo.co.uk.
