A pensioner was cut free from a car and taken to hospital after a collision in Accrington.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to Hyndburn Road near to the junction with Dill Hall Lane after a crash involving a blue Citroen Desire and a blue Renault Clio.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said one of the cars overturned and a 68-year-old woman had to be cut free.

She was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with shoulder injuries.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said two crews from Hyndburn were called to the scene at around 1.40pm on Sunday, November 1 and used cutting and spreading equipment to free the woman.

Diversions were put in place for around one hour until the road was cleared.
