Students at Accrington Academy have been appraising their A Level results, received today.

Daniel Raven, 18, from Accrington, will study accountancy and finance at Durham University after getting two A*s in business and maths and also a B and a C in economics.

He said: “I’m a bit shocked because I got nearly full marks in my business so I’m really happy with that. I’m also well happy with the A* in maths.

“I couldn’t have asked for more so I’m really proud.

“It’s been fantastic here and the teachers are really supportive and understanding. I couldn’t have asked for better teachers.

“I have tried to not think about it and didn’t even want to look at my emails this morning. When I finally did I had a confirmation I’d got in.

“It was my first choice university. I went to an open day in September and it’s been my dream university ever since.”

Amber Prestage, 18, from Clayton-le-Moors, achieved three As in maths, law and English and will study law at Manchester University.

She said: “I needed three As to get onto the course so I’m really happy. I’ve felt sick for the past week.

“I have done law since GCSE and it is an interest I’ve had for a long time.

“I keep changing my mind about what to do after university. I will see where it goes but I’m sure it will be something to do with the law.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and had great support from all the staff including the head of sixth form who has mentored my since year seven.”

Max Whittle, 17, from Oswaldtwistle, achieved A*s in maths and law and a B in physics and will study physics at Exeter University.

He said: “I did okay but I thought I had put more effort in that. The exams this year were really tough so I’m happy to get what I got.

“It’s been a very long wait since my last exam thinking about it. I got the grades I needed for university and hopefully I will carry on doing a PHD and then do medical physics.

“It’s an amazing university and the studying satisfaction is so high. I’m really looking forward to it.”

A Level results day at Accrington Academy Zeba Jahangir, 19, from Accrington

Zeba Jahangir, 19, from Accrington, will study actuarial sciences at City University London after getting an A in maths and two Cs in biology and chemistry.

She said: “They are okay. I was expecting an A* in maths but the exam was really hard. The other two I’m quite pleased that I passed.

“I’ve not been able to sleep and have been very restless but it’s definitely worth it.

“I’m hoping to become an actuary after my degree. Nobody has really heard of the course before as it’s quite new and prestigious.

“I’m looking forward to being able to relax now and go on holiday.”

Eve Smith, 18, from Accrington, achieved two As in law and dance and a C in psychology and will study law and criminology at Durham University.

She said: “I got into the university I wanted to I’m really pleased. I got an A in law last year so I was happy to keep up with it.

“I’m looking forward to university and then after that I will probably take a gap year and go travelling before finding a proper job.

“I was thankfully quite calm coming in this morning to pick up my results ad I managed to find out before that I had got into Durham.”

Hannah Wilson, 18, from Accrington, achieved two As in English and religious studies and a B in psychology and will study English and philosophy at York University.

She said: “I wasn’t expecting the A in English so I’m really happy with that. I didn’t manage to get to sleep up 4am this morning.

“I’m looking forward to York as I went there on an open day and really like it and it has good lecturers.

“I’ve definitely enjoyed my time here and have good friends and the teacher have really helped a lot.”

Adam Hussain, 18, from Accrington, is aiming to study law and criminology at UCLAN after getting a B in law and two Cs in business and religious studies.

He said: “I came out of the exams feeling really nervous so I was over the moon with the results I got. On the two Cs I was just a few marks off a B.

“My first plan was to go to Edge Hill but over the summer I’ve been thinking about it and I can’t stay away from my family so I’m thinking about going to UCLAN instead.

“I will hopefully go on to do the bar course and become a barrister.

“I want to try and keep my links to the Academy as I have been here for seven years and I want to make this place proud and give something back.

“I can’t say a big enough thank you to the teachers here. It is unbelievable how much effort they have put in for all of us.

“The support is amazing and I have loved every minute of it. I’m gutted to be leaving but I’m also excited to have a new start.”

Chloe Wilkinson, 17, from Simonstone, achieved Bs in dance and law and a C in English language and literature and will now study English at Edge Hill.

She said: “That was what I needed to get into university so I’m really happy. I genuinely didn’t think I would get it.

“I got a text from Edge Hill this morning saying I got in but I still can’t quite comprehend it.

“After that I will look to do either journalism or teaching. I’m really excited to start and to move out. It will be a new adventure.”

Caitlin Rodgers, 18, from Accrington, will study law at Edge Hill after achieving three Bs in law, dance and English.

She said: “I’m really happy, particularly with my dance result. The practical party was fine but the theory was really hard.

“I’m looking forward to doing law and after that I will see how it goes.”

A Level results day at Accrington Academy Leigh Stockman, 18, from Clayton-le-Moors

Leigh Stockman, 18, from Clayton-le-Moors, achieved a B in English, a C in history and an E in biology and will study primary education at Edge Hill before aiming to be a teaching.

She said: “The biology is now what I thought I’d get but the results overall were fine.

“I’ve been counting down the weeks and I was so nervous. When I found out I had got into university I was crying.

“I have been here for seven years and have loved every minute. I really like my teachers, particularly history and English, they are amazing. I’m really going to miss it here.”

Matthew Moore, 18, from Accrington, will now study journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University after getting a B in English and Cs in media and history.

He said: “I thought I had done horrendously bad so I’m really pleased. They were not what I expected.

“I definitely wasn’t expecting a B in English so it was a good effort. I didn’t sleep last night but I’m really proud now.

“Journalism is a new interest for me and I thought it would be something good to get into as I’m really interest in news. I’m looking forward to living in Manchester.”

Ellie Curtis, 18, from Clayton-le-Moors, achieved two Bs in English and drama with theatre studies and a D in maths and will study English language at Edge Hill.

She said: “It is sort of what I expected. The maths was tough but the English and drama were okay.

“I tried to put it out of my mind but in the last few days I’ve been really nervous.

“I’m looking forward to going to Edge Hill and there are quite a few people going from here which is great.”

Louisa Martino, 18, from Accrington, is now on an accountancy apprenticeship after getting a C in history, D in Maths and a U in biology.

She said: “I started a few weeks ago in Padiham. I knew I didn’t want to go to university as I changed my mind a few months ago and wanted to do this instead.

“It’s a three-year apprenticeship and I might then go on to the next level after that.

“Everyone describes me as laid back and not nervous at all. I slept like a baby last night.”
