Green-fingered children took part in a litter pick and Eco Day.

Pupils from Hippings Methodist Primary School in Oswaldtwistle collected 22 bags of rubbish as part of a project to raise awareness about recycling and to educate them on the eco-effects on wildlife and the environment.

The event was in partnership with Prospects and One Planet Planters and Hyndburn Homes supplied gloves, black bags and hand held litter-pickers.

The route included Heron Way, Curlew Close and Merlin Drive and the school children, all aged between four and 11 years old, also got the chance to sow vegetable seeds in pots provided.

Jayne Brignall, Hyndburn Homes community investment officer, said: “We are pleased to hear that the day was a success. It was rewarding to see the children so enthusiastic.

“They were really surprised at how much litter they collected and enjoyed every minute of it.”
