A lorry crashed into a railway bridge causing disruption to motorists and commuters.

Police were called to the bridge on Blackburn Road in Church at around 4.30pm on Thursday, September 24.

The road was closed off from the roundabout with Union Road to Thwaites Road and officers diverted traffic.

Lancashire Police said no injuries were reported and the collision caused no damage to the bridge.

A spokesman said: “We were called just after 4.30pm to reports of a lorry colliding with a railway bridge.

“The lorry had got stuck and by 5.38pm they had managed to unwedge the lorry from the bridge and the road was cleared by 6pm.”

Transdev Lancashire said their X41 bus service had to be diverted along the M65.

Northern Rail tweeted: “Due to a vehicle striking a bridge at #Church and Oswaldtwistle trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.”
