Pupils and staff were inspired to dress up as their favourite book characters as part of a ‘creative week.

All the students at Rishton St Charles primary school donned wigs, make-up and fancy dress and wre inspired by traditional tales.

Vivien Baker, headteacher at Rishton St Charles School, said the school was treated to a performance of Alice in Wonderland by a Manchester theatre group and later in the week tasked youngsters and staff to dress up as a book character.

Entries included Where’s Wally, Captain Underpants, Queen of Hearts, Pippi Longstocking, Billionaire Boy and The Enormous Crocodile.

Mrs Baker said: “For creative week we came off topic and did all sorts of different things with each class taking a book as a theme. Alice in Wonderland is a traditional tale and the children really enjoyed it.

“On Thursday we all dressed up as a book character and the staff did too. The children wrote stories and read them to other classes and really enjoyed that. We had a fabulous time.”

The winners of the best fancy dress were chosen by all the pupils.

Mrs Baker dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and was joined by deputy headteacher Patrick Kennedy as the Fox and senior teaching assistant Pauline Hodgson as Kermit the Frog.
