Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a teenager was assaulted by up to five men outside a wine bar in Great Harwood.

The 18-year-old victim was having a cigarette outside Baggy’s bar when a group of men started punching him in the head repetitively.

The victim managed to get back in the bar but suffered facial injuries and a black eye during the incident on Glebe Street at around 2.10am.

PC Craig Swift from Hyndburn police believed the offenders had been waiting outside for the victim following a verbal altercation inside the wine bar around 15 minutes earlier.

He added: "The offence happened in the early hours of Sunday, March 3. We have issued CCTV images of a group of men captured on the street at around the time of the offence. We are looking to identify and speak with them. Fortunately the victim has managed to get away. One of the men is believed to have been wearing a red and white striped top. I’d appeal to anybody that witnessed this assault or recognises any of the men pictured in the CCTV images to come forward and contact police on 101.”
