A dog has been reunited with her owner after being stolen in a burglary.

Pet pooch Gary, who is a female, was reunited with her owner after some great detective work by Hyndburn Police.

PC Vickie Heys, from the Great Harwood Neighbourhood team, who dealt with the case, said as a dog owner herself, she felt for Gary’s owner.

She said: “The property in Great Harwood was burgled over the August Bank Holiday weekend and the dog was stolen during the burglary.

“A few days later I got a call from Gary’s owner to say they thought the dog was at a property in Blackburn.

“We got a warrant and the dog was recovered as a result of that warrant.

“A very happy Gary was reunited with a very happy owner.

“It’s unusual to get a dog back. It’s not something that happens a lot, and as a dog owner myself, I would do anything I could to get my dog back.”

In a post on its Facebook page, Hyndburn Police said: “With the help of our Neighbourhood Colleague PC Kevin Crow in Blackburn PC Vickie Heys was able to trace Gary and return her to her very grateful and relieved owners.

“She is now curled paws up on the sofa.”
