Police want to speak to a man filmed by CCTV cameras in connection with an alleged theft from a charity box.

Officers have issued an appeal after money disappeared from a collection box at Great Harwood Tyres on Heys Lane, Great Harwood in aid of Donna’s Dream House.

Police are appealing for information and want to speak to a man who was filmed by CCTV cameras at the garage on Tuesday, February 2.

Owner Asim Rauf said he was ‘flabbergasted’ and described the alleged theft as ‘lower than low’.

He said: “Normally we couldn’t ask for better customers.

“We have never had a problem here before.

“Sometimes our customers don’t have the money to pay and we let them come back the next day.

“I was just flabbergasted.

“It wasn’t the quantity of money involved, as it was probably only a few pounds, but it’s who it was for.”

The man, who was filmed on the cameras at around 8.55am on Tuesday, February 2, visited the garage and bought new tyres.

The plastic charity box, in the shape of a house, was placed in a tray of sweets to raise money for the charity which provides holidays for children and teenagers with life-threatening cancer.

Asim, 34, who has run the garage for four years, said: “I noticed the collection box had fallen flat and there was no change in there.

“At first I thought it had been knocked over when someone went to get a pack of sweets.

“However the box was not clipped together correctly.”

Police are appealing for information into the incident and are asking for anyone who recognises the man in the footage to come forward.

They say they want to speak to a man in his 40s or 50s who is described as wearing a dark grey woolly hat and a dark jacket.

Anyone with information call police on 101 quoting log number 885 for February 2.
