Police are appealing for information after a lady was assaulted when she attempted to stop suspected shoplifters in a Rishton store.

Two women went into the Co-Op store on Harwood Road and selected  more than £200 worth of meat from the shelves.

As they were attempting to leave the store, the lady, who is in her 60s, challenged them but she was pushed to the floor and suffered a minor arm injury.

The pair then ran from the area and  police are appealing for information and have issued CCTV images of two people they are looking to speak to in connection with the incident.

PC Johanna Maden said the incident happened just before 3pm on Friday, May 31.

She added: “I would appeal to anyone who recognises these women to come forward and contact the police. The victim has been left shaken by the incident and we are keen to trace the people responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
