The Prime Minister has responded to the concerns of an 11-year-old schoolgirl.

Halle Carnall, of Queens Road, penned a one-page letter to David Cameron in May which hit national headlines and was shared more than 40,000 times on Facebook - including as far afield as China.

In the letter to Number 10 the Accrington Academy pupil said she was “scared” for the future of the country and voiced her fears for the future of millions of young people.

This week Halle was ‘over the moon’ to receive a personal response back from the Prime Minister.

In his reply, signed simply ‘Yours David’, Mr Cameron said he was focusing on the National Health Service, education and employment to create a ‘brighter future’ for children like Halle.

He wrote: “Thank you for taking the time to write to me about the NHS, Education and Employment.

“It is clear from your letter that you have given these matters a great deal of thought and, like you, these matters are of great concern to me too.

“I found it deeply encouraging that you have taken the time to write and share your concerns.

“With young people like you taking an active interest in our country I can be sure that our future will be safe for many years to come.”

In her letter, Halle wrote: “I am very lucky that both of my parents have good jobs and I will have a warm meal tonight.

“However, lots of my school friends and millions of others in your country are not so lucky and will be hungry today, tomorrow and for the next five years.”

She added: “Whether rich or poor we are all the same, we all have the right to a good standard of education, health care and job opportunities.

“It scares me to imagine what state this country will be in when I’m older.

“Please consider me and millions of children just like me who deserve the best chance in life.”

Mum Joanne, 31, said that Halle and the family were ‘delighted’ to receive the reply.

She said: “I knew straight away when I saw the stamp on the envelope where it had come from.

“I sat Halle down after school.

“I gave her the letter and she was made up, she was over the moon.

“Halle was confident the moment she sent the letter that a response would come, and to get one is just great.

“We’ll be framing it and giving it pride of place.

“I am so proud of her, but not just for this.

“Halle is such a bright and caring young lady.”
