Residents and community groups teamed up to collect around 60 bags of litter in Woodnook.

Around 25 people including children, local councillors, members of the Woodnook Residents Association, Red Rose Recovery and property developer PlaceFirst took part in the community litter pick with equipment provided by the council.

Yvonne Hinds, community coordinator for Woodnook, said it was a ‘really good joint effort’ and the event ‘went really well’.

She said: “We had great support from Hyndburn Homes and Asda who provided cooked breakfasts for everyone.

“We had about 25 people so it was a really good turnout and we must have collected about 50 or 60 bags of litter. We went from the small estate up Belfield Road right down to Wellington Street and Cotton Street, the whole area of Woodnook.”

Following the clean-up people were invited back to The Woodnook Centre to work with the Prospects group to learn how to grow their own fruit and veg.

Yvonne said: “We are trying to get people interested in keeping Woodnook tidy and to help them use the green space in Woodnook and grow things in their own back yards that they can eat.”
