A road dubbed ‘one of the worst in Hyndburn’ has been closed for resurfacing.

Works began on Ribblesdale Avenue in Accrington on Monday and the road will be shut from 8am to 4.30pm for the next four weeks.

Motorists will not be allowed to park on the road, however access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Ward councillor Paul Cox said the scheme come after ‘years of constant campaigning and dialogue’ with the county council.

He said: “The condition of this road has been the source of many complaints, with the road dubbed as the worst in Hyndburn by many residents over several years.

“The Laneside estate deserves this much needed road improvment.

“Unfortunately it has taken longer but as we all know Lancashire is under extreme financial pressures from central government.”

The old surface will be removed on May 12 and 13 and the new surface will then be installed on May 25.

County councillor Clare Pritchard said: “I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would appreciate your co-operation whilst the highway improvements are carried out.”
