Fire crews rescued a sleeping man from a flat after he left food cooking under a grill.

Three pumps from Hyndburn were called to the flat at St Ledgers Court in Accrington after being alerted by a neighbour who heard the smoke alarm.

Firefighters broke in through the front door and evacuated the man from the property.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The man was sleeping in the bedroom and we led him out of the flat.

“He had left the grill pan on with food underneath it. He had then gone to bed and forgot about it.

“The fire caused damaged to the over and smoke damaged to the rest of the property.”

It happened at 10.20pm on Monday, October 28.
