A councillor has issued a dire warning over safety at a major roundabout serving the borough.

Concerns have been raised over the roundabout at Rising Bridge, whose exits lead to Accrington, Blackburn, Haslingden and the M66, that the grass on the roundabout has become overgrown and is becoming a risk to motorists.

Rising Bridge Conservative county councillor David Stansfield claimed that before long someone 'could get killed'.

He said: “It’s a hazard now and it’s been a hazard for a long time. It’s dangerous.

“I think it’s time for the councils and Highways to get together, sit down and say one of us is going to cut this and whatever the cost is split it between them.”

We reported last year that Highways England were planning to carry out a landscape improvement scheme at the roundabout on the A56.

Highways England said: “The grass cutting at Rising Bridge roundabout is on our routine maintenance programme. A date for grass cutting has yet to be confirmed.”
