The latest contestant has entered the bid to become Accrington’s 25th Carnival Queen.

Sarah Jane Case, who is a student at St Christopher’s CE Sixth Form, loves animals, musical theatre, baking and charity work.

The 17-year-old wants to work in musical theatre when she has finished her A Levels.

The Accrington Carnival Queen Competition will now be held on May 28 at The Brooks Club, on Infant Street - a change from the original date and venue.

The winner receives £400 cash and a variety of presents, including a tiara and flowers.

Girls over 16, who live or work in Hyndburn and want to enter the competition, can collect application forms from Barbara Kay Shoes & Accessories, All The Rage - or download them from www.accringtoncarnival.co.uk .

They should register by the deadline of Friday, May 22 with May Edmundson on 07806 093068 or Tracy Simmonds on 07971 772168 to arrange a photograph for publicity.

The Accrington Lions have also launched this year’s Carnival Princess Competition.

All Hyndburn girls, who are between six and 11 years old, can enter the event, which will be held at Oswaldtwistle Mills on May 30, from 9.30am.

The Princesses-to-be will be judged by the new Queen, who will have been crowned two days before, and Princess Elsa from Frozen, who will appear as a special guest.

A maximum of 40 entries are allowed for the Princess Competition.

May Edmundson, who organises the event, said there were “quite a few” contestants already.

She said: “We hope it’s going to be a well-attended, fantastic competition.”

Application forms are at Oswaldtwistle Mills, Barbara Kay Shoes or online at www.accringtoncarnival.co.uk .

Both the Queen and the Princess will be star attractions at the Accrington Carnival, which is now in its 50th year, on June 13.
