Many woke to find a surprise blanket of white this morning after unexpected snowfall hit Hyndburn.
A minor snow storm hit the borough today causing traffic delays as commuters battled hazardous conditions to return to work after the Easter break, despite no snow having been forecast by the Met Office.
Transdev’s Lancashire United bus service tweeted at 8.30am that they were experiencing delays and were unable to access some areas around Accrington, causing their Outer Circle services along St James’s Road to be taken out of service.
Posting on their Twitter feed, a spokesperson for the company said: “We are also unable to serve Shakespeare Ave or Wordsworth Drive on our Hyndburn Connect services. We are operating along Blackburn Road.”
Hyndburn Police tweeted: “Christmas has come late with snow affecting many roads this morning, please check your route before setting off today.”
A spokesman from Pilkington Bus said that all their services were currently operating as normal.
He said: “It slowed us down a little bit, but it’s all mostly melted into slush now.”
Further forecast from the Met Office for the next 24 hours does not predict more snow, but forecasts temperatures to rise to around seven degrees, with further light showers overnight and across Wednesday.
