Thousands of pounds of meat has been stolen from butchers shops – and police think the meat is being sold on in time for Christmas

Offenders broke into G A & L Perkins butchers, in Oswaldtwistle and stole around £2,000 worth of meat, including  gammon, lamb, bacon and pork.

Duckworths, in Rishton,  and Metcalfe’s, in Great Harwood , were also targeted, however burglars were not able to gain access. Police are connecting the incidents to similar burglaries in Longridge.

Det Sgt Eric Halford said: “It is extremely unusual to get this many butcher shop burglaries so close together.

“The offenders are probably local and will be looking for local buyers. We have had three in Hyndburn but about five or six in total across the area.

“One butchers in the Ribble Valley had about £4,000 worth of meat stolen so I think they have got lucky in Hyndburn in that they haven’t been able to get access to two of the shops.

“If they had then they would have taken the vast majority of their stock. All these cases are being linked.”
