A tribute cafe to the Accrington Pals has opened in the Market Hall.

The cafe was officially opened on Saturday, October 24 by Hyndburn MP Graham Jones and council leader Miles Parkinson.

The Accrington Pals Cafe, which was formerly Peggy’s Cafe, aims to be a celebration of the Accrington Pals Regiment, which was tragically wiped out during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

Owner Karen Higgins, 36, said: “The opening day was a fantastic success.

“We wanted to bring an exciting new eatery to the heart of our home town with a nostalgic theme for the people of the borough.

“There can be no more a greater theme for this café, dedicated to the Accrington Pals.

“We love the people of Accrington and will be serving to them a selection of traditional Lancashire fare, breakfasts and delicious homemade favourites that were previously popular with the former Peggy’s Cafe.”

The Pals Cafe will open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4pm, except on Wednesdays when it will close at 1.30pm.

On Thursdays the cafe will offer 30 per cent discounts for senior citizens.
