Forty five jobs are set to be created with the opening of two Domino’s takeaways in Hyndburn.

Pizza delivery chain bosses have confirmed the new Accrington outlet based at The Viaduct will open later this summer providing 25 jobs.

Plans have also been submitted to Hyndburn Council to open up another Domino’s takeaway in Great Harwood creating a further 20 job opportunities.

Helen Tosney-Collins, speaking on behalf of the Domino’s Pizza Group, said: “We’re hoping to open our new store in Accrington in late summer.

“Opening the new store will generate around 25 new jobs and careers in the Accrington community and it would be operated as a local business.

“Domino’s Pizza takes its role as a responsible neighbour very seriously and our franchisees work very hard to play an active role in the community, not only to deliver great tasting pizza but also to support local groups and events.”

The Accrington Domino’s will be based next to the newly opened Farmfoods supermarket.

The Observer reported earlier this month how Globe Enterprises, who manages the former Superbowl building at The Viaduct complex, said the final details are being made with Domino’s to move into the 8,000sq ft unit in the next few weeks.

Planning documents sent to the council also reveal how the firm wants to convert a former hairdressers and beauty salon at 92-98 Queen Street in Great Harwood into another takeaway.

Lorna Duggan, of the Domino’s Pizza Group, said it will create ‘approximately 20 jobs at a sustainable in-centre location.’ In a report she said: “The proposal will bring a vacant unit back into beneficial use, thereby contributing to the vitality and viability of the town centre.”

Ward councillor Noordad Aziz said he welcomed the plans as long as they don’t impact on other local takeaways.

He said: “It’s an international brand coming into the area. If you look at the Fylde coast they are run there very successfully.

“My only concern would be, given the amount of new fast food outlets in the area, would it be viable for all of them to survive?

“But then you could argue that Dominos would target a different clientèle.

“I think it’s positive for the town that Dominos wants to locate here.”
