A community group has raised thousands for charity, after hundreds attended a weekend of local art.
More than 500 people flocked to Hyndburn Macmillan Committee’s inaugural Art Fair, held at Accrington’s Haworth Art Gallery, raising more than £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Several Hyndburn artists showcased their work at the gallery, donating 50 percent of their sales to charity.
A raffle was also held, with prizes including an original painting worth in excess of £5,000, donated by renowned wildlife artist Pollyanna Pickering.
The weekend began with a preview night, attended by the Mayor, Mayoress and invited guests, with the exhibition opening to the public for the following two days.
The group now hopes to hold the fair every year.
Committee secretary Jeanette Parkes said: “This was the brainchild of our chairperson, Susan Johnson, who was inspired by a Macmillan Committee in Glasgow. She saw their fair and thought, we have an art gallery, so we can do it too!
“The weekend was superb and it was a lovely event. We had a lot of support from the local community.”
