Spring has well and truly sprung and Hyndburn has plenty to offer those who venture out this May.

In the wake of Kenneth Branagh’s remake, Accrington Town Hall Film Club is showing Disney’s original 1950 Cinderella on Saturday, May 2 at 1.30pm for just £5.

That Saturday is also the last game of the season for Accrington Stanley, who will finish the season at home to Mansfield Town with kick off at 3pm.

The last time the two sides met, Accrington were victorious with a narrow win so this is a chance to end the season on a high. Adult tickets are £20.

Accrington Town Hall will also play host to a Classic Northern Soul and Motown evening on Saturday, May 9 from 8pm.

Legendary DJs Brian Rae and Keith Gunton will keep dancers entertained until 1.30am.

The Great Harwood Royal British Legion is inviting everyone to the Cenotaph in Memorial Park on Sunday, May 10 at 11.30am for a short service before the parade at 12noon to celebrate VE Day.

The parade, featuring the Stacksteads Band, will end at The Plough, Queen Street where there will be charity stalls.

Vice chairman Terry Wood said the charity presence means the event will be community-driven, with participation from The Rotary Club and Harwood Churches.

The tenth annual Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle charity walk will take place on Sunday, May 17.

Cubs and Beavers aged six to ten from the 1st Oswaldtwistle St Paul’s Scout group will complete the 5k walk starting at the Junction 7 business centre opposite the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors.

There will be ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ at The Civic Arts Centre in Oswaldtwistle.

Inspired by the Lemony Snicket series the Baudelaire orphans have to survive the dastardly schemes of their nefarious uncle, Count Olaf. Three performances will be held from May 29 to 30. Coun Marlene Haworth will become the new Mayor in the Mayor-making ceremony at Accrington Town Hall on Saturday, May 30. The public are invited afterwards to attend the parade from the Town Hall to St James’ Church at 11.30am and the church service. There will be a final parade back to the Town Hall at 12.15pm.
