ACCRINGTON Cricket Club are hoping that they can secure their future by selling off some of their land.

The club owns about seven acres at Thorneyholme Road and are looking to maybe sell off around two of them - the car park and the tennis courts.

The club - whose future was under threat in the summer due to finances - will, though, have to break a 100-year old covenant to do it.

The idea is still in its early stages as the first step was to get an agreement from the members at an Emergency General Meeting on Monday to begin proceedings to investigate the possibility of selling some of their assets.

"There is a lot of land and we are looking at selling off part of it but all we have done so far is see if the members agreed that we should investigate this as a way forward. We held the EGM and the answer was yes," said chairman Peter Barratt.

"We probably have about six or seven acres and we could maybe sell two of them but that is a long way in the future.
