BELTHORN Primary School are Old Trafford bound after winning the Asda Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Schools Year Six Kwik Cricket competition.

11 schools from Hyndburn battled for the top spot at Accrington Cricket Club with Belthorn facing St Huberts and St Josephs up against baxenden in the semi-finals.

Both were tense games going to the last ball leaving Belthorn, with Cameron Holt hitting a match-winning six off the final ball, facing Baxenden in the final.

It was a narrow win for Belthorn with Kurtis Brandon not conceding any runs in the final over to make sure they will play represent Hyndburn at the National ASDA Kwik Cricket Competition at Lancashire Cricket Club on July 7.

Competition Manager Roger Haythornthwaite said: "The whole day was a great success to see 11 schools all playing cricket at the same time is pleasing to see, with a good percentage girls all doing really well. The behavior, attitude and skill level of the pupils was really good to see on what was a fantastic day. Well done to Belthorn Primary school and good luck in the finals at Old Trafford."
