CHURCH and Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club have named Kiwi all-rounder Luke Woodcock as their professional for the 2009 Lancashire League season.
The 27-year-old Wellington Firebirds star has impressed Church scouts Down Under with his recent performances in state cricket.
Woodcock has played 59 first class matches since 2001/2, taking 66 wickets at 36.8 apiece and with an economy rate of 2.53 runs per over. With the bat he has plundered 2,391 runs, at an average of 28.1, including three centuries and 13 fifties.
Woodcock will arrive at West End on the back of a highly successful season in which he was called up to the New Zealand A squad. He will be the club’s first Kiwi professional since Mark Priest in 1991-92.
The club wished to thank main club sponsor Simon Hargreaves and Original Fabrics for making the signing possible.
