ACCRINGTON’s double winning star bowler David Ormerod has won the prestigious ‘Wisden Cricketer Club Cricketer of the Year’ award.

The Thorneyholme Road captain, nicknamed ‘Dibber’ took 71 Lancashire League wickets last season, led Accrington to the league title and Worsley Cup success as well as taking his 1000th Lancashire League wicket during the summer.

The 39-year-old was nominated by Wisden Cricket writer Andrew Collomosse from all the clubs in the United Kingdom.

"I had a telephone call to tell me about it and I am really honoured," said Ormerod.

"I think people get nominated from various regions and my name has come out on top.

"It is fantastic for me but I am really taking the award in honour of the club and its achievements this season. It is a team game.

"I did ask what award I would get and they said a cricket bat - I said that wasn’t any good for me!

"I am not sure what will happen - if there is a ceremony - as I am awaiting another call - but I am really pleased."
