Baxenden suffered their first defeat of the Ribblesdale League season but still retain leadership of the senior league.

However, Barnoldswick and Read closed the gap at the top with back-to-back weekend wins.

Read ended Baxenden’s six match winning start to the campaign thanks to a four-wicket win at Whalley Road. Bash pro Baber Naeem claimed runs and wickets in Baxenden’s two performances. He made 61 against Read but it wasn’t enough to chalk up a seventh straight win.

But his 6-14 against local rivals Great Harwood was enough as they skittled Harwood out for just 72.

Bash had made 120 with Ben Swindells top scorer with an unbeaten 32. Harwood pro Syed Shahabuddin took four wickets.

The Harwood pro top-scored with the bat with 41 but none of his team-mates could get into double figures thanks to Naeem’s bowling skills.

The day before, Harwood saw off Settle who dropped to the bottom after a double loss weekend.

Harwood made 175 with Russell Whalley scoring a half-century. Amar Ullah took 6-7 to dismiss Settle by 88 runs.
