An outstanding performance by Hyndburn CC’s Under-13s saw them beat a previously unbeaten Ribble Valley side to become Lancashire group champions.
The visitors, including two current Lancashire players in their ranks, won the toss and put Hyndburn in on a good batting track.
Having bowled out several teams cheaply on their way to the final, Ribble Valley obviously expected to continue in the same vein.
However, Matt Roberts had other ideas and scored an exceptional 100 from as many balls as Hyndburn amassed a seson’s best of 213-9.
Ribble Valley began brightly in reply but it didn’t take too long for Hyndburn to make inroads into their batting.
Having seen Lewis Wright pick up the first wicket and Declan Bateson force a run out, Roberts picked up three scalps to add to his century to leave Ribble Valley 74-5 at halfway.
Although Jackson hit 50 for Ribble Valley, a sharp catch by Wright off Mark Waleczek saw the end of him and they capitulated to 157 all out.
