Jimmy Bibby admitted that lady luck is finally shining on Rishton as they climbed off the bottom of the league.

The Blackburn Road side have been rooted to the foot of the table and equalled an unwanted league record of 16 successive losses. But now they have two wins on the bounce and are looking upwards.

"Wins have become like buses," said captain Bibby.

"But last week’s win over Colne was a definite relief.

"Mind you, we don’t make things easy for ourselves as I thought we would win that comfortably at 120-3 but then we managed to lose three quick wickets and make it nervous.

"But luck does seem to be going our way for some reason now.

"We beat Enfield last Sunday and they dropped five catches and we had only had two lbw decisions all season and then we had two for the first two wickets in Sunday’s game.

"In most of the other matches we have played, the catches have been caught and bowling decisions haven’t gone our way and finally we are having a bit of luck – and I am glad about that as it does make a huge difference."

The Rishton captain, in charge for the first time this season, admits it is an honour to be at the club no matter what kind of season they have.

"I was born and bred on Station Road, so to captain your local club is what you want to do and I am enjoying it no matter what.

"To be honest, other captains have helped me. Graham Knowles at Haslingden and Jon Fielding at Ramsbottom kept telling me to keep going and that we were not as bad as our league position suggested and you do take heart from that.

"Other teams did seem to be behind us and didn’t seem to want us to keep losing so I am glad we finally got a win – closely followed by another."

Bibby admits though he is in a bit of dispute about the league’s record of defeats.

"Accrington held the record in 2005 and theirs was consecutive defeats from the start of the season.

"Ours was five from last season and 11 this season, with a different pro and personnel so I don’t think ours is as bad! That’s what I keep telling people.

"Mind you I heard when Accrington lost their 16 on the spin, that they then won two on the trot like us and lost all the games for the rest of the season. I hope that’s not an omen."

Bibby wants to build on the two wins and make the table even better looking.

"It’s a huge relief to be off the bottom," said the skipper. "Colne have replaced us and we play them tomorrow so that’s a massive game.

"They will be out to beat us to put us back on the bottom and we now want to get a bit of a gap between ourselves and the bottom and hopefully then we can play with less pressure and more freedom.

"Then it’s Ramsbottom on Sunday and that will be tough.

"But we did run them close earlier in the season and got some bowling points from that game so it will be a challenge for us and hopefully we can do it."

Rishton’s cause this campaign hasn’t been helped by the departure of pro Cameron Delport at the end of May with a finger injury.

They have been reliant on sub pros but have Padiham paid man Chris Holt for most Sundays and he has been a huge boost for Rishton.

"He took seven wickets on Sunday and he has been good for us.

"He used to be captain at Read so he helps me and we have signed him up until the end of the season to play for us when he can."

Saturdays are the main problem but they have got Fleetwood bowling pro Ryan Smith for that huge clash wtih Colne.

"It wasn’t worth us going out and getting another pro just due to probably having to pay out another air fare and accomodation.

"We thought we would have Cameron for the full season but you can’t do anything about injury and it could happen again to another pro.

"Now we just have to keep looking forward, forget the 11 losses this season and concentrate on the two wins and make sure we are competitive."
