Billy Kee scored a late winner for Accrington Stanley as his side kept up their promotion ambitions with a victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 25-year-old struck with just seven minutes remaining to earn his side all three points at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

It leaves the Reds fifth in the League Two table, now just one point behind Bristol Rovers who currently occupy the final automatic promotion place.

Stanley were in control for the majority of the game and nearly took the lead in the first half when his header hit the crossbar.

The hosts enjoyed a brief spell of possession after the interval, with Ross Etheridge having to be alert in the Accrington goal.

It looked like the two teams would be heading for a 0-0 draw but on 83 minutes Stanley finally made the breakthrough when Kee scored.

His initial shot was blocked by Dom Hyam, but he managed to fire home the rebound from close range to make it 1-0.

Dagenham pushed for an equaliser during the closing stages but they couldn’t find one, with the Reds running out winners.

The defeat for the Daggers mean they are now nine points from safety in the League Two table.
