There were mixed emotions for the Hyndburn sides last weekend as they faced off against each other in the Central Lancashire League.

Former leaders CHURCH edged back up to third in the table after a hard-fought four-wicket win at nearby RISHTON.

While Church were happy to get the win on Sunday, they suffered a blow as captain Craig Fergusson was forced to go to hospital after injuring his finger whilst fielding.

Sam Tucker picked up from where he left off, though, again playing a leading role for Church by hitting an unbeaten 28 to secure their eighth win from 11 league games.

Adam Greenwood chipped in with 22 not out in an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 53 after the visitors slipped to 121-6 chasing Rishton’s 170 all out.

Church professional Usman Tariq had earlier made 50, adding 46 with Levi Wolfenden for the first wicket.

Tariq also performed with the ball, taking 4-35 in the Rishton innings.

Home professional Matt Hulett top-scored with an unbeaten 53 while Mo Patel chipped in with 33.

Rishton now lie 11th in the table following their eighth defeat from 11 league games.

There was more misery for Rishton last Friday with Church beating them in the 20/20 competition too.

Church finished on 181-5 with Wolfenden top-scoring with an impressive 104.

But the hosts could only manage 155-7 in reply, handing Church a 26-run victory.

Hulett top-scored for Rishton, hitting 40 before being caught and bowled by Jack Gaskill, who finished with 4-20.

It wasn’t just Church who picked up a four-wicket win as ENFIELD beat ACCRINGTON by the same margin at Thorneyholme Road.

Accy seamer Jimmy Hayhurst took a career best 6-39 but that wasn’t enough to prevent Enfield completing the double over their local rivals.

After the hosts were bowled out in the final over for 142, Hayhurst took all six Enfield wickets to fall.

But an unbeaten 47 by Tiarnan Hamill guided the visitors to victory with four balls to spare. Pro Werner Coetsee helped put Enfield in a winning position by top-scoring with 57.

Ben Dowling had earlier taken 4-42 for Enfield and Liam Jackson marked his Lancashire League return with 3-44.

Stand-in captain Simon Hanson top-scored with 42 for Accy as he made 56 with fellow opener Jon Hayhurst (8).

Jackson removed both openers, along with Ramiz Hussain for a duck, while Sam Excell also went without scoring to leave the hosts on 62-4.

Pro Ockert Erasmus (28) and Matt Wilson (20) steadied the ship, but Coetsee restricted the scoring by taking 2-11 from 12 overs - six of which were maidens. Victory edged Enfield up to fourth while Accy slipped one place to eighth.

Last year’s champions were also in 20/20 action on Friday, picking up a six-wicket win at home to East Lancashire.

East Lancs were put in to bat and finished on 128-6, with pro Matthew Kleinveldt top-scoring with 57 while Accy pro Erasmus took 3-17 and Liam Smalley 2-26.

The hosts then reached their target with three overs to spare, finishing on 134-4. Erasmus also produced with the bat, top-scoring with an unbeaten 42 while Stuart Crabtree made 30.
