ACCRINGTON Girls and Ladies had a successful weekend with two wins and an excellent away draw for the Ladies’ Reserves team.

The first team welcomed newly-promoted Workington Reds to Livingstone Road and ran out 10-3 winners, with Lauren Walker scoring five.

Accy struck first after Amie Barrett’s through-ball for  Becky McEwan and the lead was soon doubled, when McEwan’s shot was saved and Walker fired in the rebound.

McEwan then set Barrett free for a deflected goal. Walker soon got her second and although Workington pulled a goal back on 22 minutes, any hope of a comeback was over as Walker completed her hat-trick.

A Jo Duckworth header from Leah Embley’s corner made it 6-1 at half-time, and McEwan headed in another Embley corner after the restart before Walker grabbed her fourth with a superb  chip from 30 yards.

Workington pulled another one back on 63 minutes, only for Beth Hibbert to cut in from the left and set up Walker for Accy’s ninth. Workington again cut the deficit on 83 minutes but player of the match Barrett completed the scoring with her second from Caroline Mallen’s diagonal ball.

Becky and Natasha Demaine scored as the reserves earned a 2-2 draw at Mill Hill, who beat them 3-0 earlier this term.

The Under-12s progressed in the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Haslingden Girls. Tyhesia Barker’s early opener was cancelled out but she won it with her second goal late on. The POM was Ella Whittaker.

This Sunday sees the first team play in the County Cup at home to a Morecambe Ladies team two divisions above them.

The reserves are also at home against Galgate, which has been switched to Wilsons. The U12s play Westbury and the U14s have their rearranged cup fixture away to Haslingden.
